Today's dose of Florida via Kissimmee's Tourism Blog

Orange You Glad You Came?

Wizards and mermaids and oranges, oh my! Kissimmee’s roadside is lined with buildings meant to coax you off 192. My favorite is the glowing orange dome of Orange World. There’s something delightfully kitschy about the “world’s largest orange” and the Florida souvenirs held inside it. You’ll find various wares made with and smelling of oranges. There’s the typical tourist selection of shirts, hats, shot glasses, and pocket knives with popular state mascots. My brother and I particularly enjoyed a 3D map of Florida showing important landmarks. If only it could have rolled up for the plane ride home.

What makes Orange World a Kissimmee favorite is the experience. It embraces the Florida of old where travelers stopped for glasses of orange juice and a taste of the famous fruit. Today you can still try samples and grab a bag to take with you. For those of us who’ve come a longer way, Orange World offers to ship the fruit to wherever it is you call home.

The sign above their door proclaims “Welcome to Florida! Take some home.” Whether it’s a hat with the famous orange on it or simply a picture in front of the larger version, you’ll end up with a sweet souvenir.
