So, while this horrible sick thing has knocked me out of the past week it wasn't enough to stop our ongoing saga as house hunters. On this particular outing we found another short sale to put an offer in on. This one is a split level on a "big" parcel (and by that I mean big as far as city lots go) and it's not like anything we've seen. It 's not as old as we usually like but it's got a lot of potential. Also on this trip I realized how house hunting is like legally being able to urban explore. In our short time running through other people's houses we've found some strange and gross things. As much as we're trying to find our forever home it's almost just as fun finding ones that won't ever be. First off, Happy St. Patty's Day my friends! I am indeed drinking after the kind of week we've had in the house hunting department. We've now seen over 18 houses. Monday was a trip downtown to the Avenues. If I were an SLC address I would be in the Avenues. It's eclectic, hip and full of puff people. It's also typically way out of our price range. So we were pretty amped to look at 2 houses that were. This was the nicer of the 2: We'll call it the "Graveyard Avenues" house from here on out. It was built in 1906 and like most houses in the area is going to need some work. Some of the work is cosmetic and other types are major like securing the foundation. These houses are just so old and are on hills that they need to be updated. BUT, a block away there are massively nice mansions. When I was fixing to graduate UF my academic adviser told me that unless I wanted to live in a cardboard box, I needed to explore other things to do with my English degree. True story. The creative writer in me was mortified but it was solid advice. I have not used my degree for anything writing related...until now. On a whim in March I applied to be a paid blogger for Kissimmee's tourism site. Surprisingly they accepted me and I'll be heading back to Florida tonight on our old friend the red eye flight. My posts on the tourism website won't be live yet but I'm going to be cross posting all of the adventures to this blog.
