*missed the last train home...*

My family is coming up for the holiday tomorrow and despite our best efforts to make the Ranch more complete, we managed only two rooms. Although Seth would argue that a room without a ceiling fan/light is not finished. :) I'm learning to be okay with the fact that it still looks like it needs loving. I just got too inspired by that "restoring carousel" phone ad.

Surely if they can do that in a day then we can eventually finish our house.

So, while this horrible sick thing has knocked me out of the past week it wasn't enough to stop our ongoing saga as house hunters. On this particular outing we found another short sale to put an offer in on. This one is a split level on a "big" parcel (and by that I mean big as far as city lots go) and it's not like anything we've seen. It 's not as old as we usually like but it's got a lot of potential. Also on this trip I realized how house hunting is like legally being able to urban explore. In our short time running through other people's houses we've found some strange and gross things. As much as we're trying to find our forever home it's almost just as fun finding ones that won't ever be. First off, Happy St. Patty's Day my friends! I am indeed drinking after the kind of week we've had in the house hunting department. We've now seen over 18 houses. Monday was a trip downtown to the Avenues. If I were an SLC address I would be in the Avenues. It's eclectic, hip and full of puff people. It's also typically way out of our price range. So we were pretty amped to look at 2 houses that were. This was the nicer of the 2: We'll call it the "Graveyard Avenues" house from here on out. It was built in 1906 and like most houses in the area is going to need some work. Some of the work is cosmetic and other types are major like securing the foundation. These houses are just so old and are on hills that they need to be updated. BUT, a block away there are massively nice mansions. "I rest my head between the bed and sky"

I'm constantly haunted by songs from my former life (or lives). They come on the radio on my way to the gym. They catch me by surprise when I'm lounging on the couch. They're in my head when I wake up some mornings. With a couple remembered/misremembered lines I'm back on a road trip, lying on a red bed under twinkle lights or in the Thunderdome. It makes my heart twinge a little at all the people I used to be in those moments. Then the music stops and I'm back in my present life thinking that soon today's songs will be tomorrow's ghosts.
